OIL SERVICES
Well drilling & oil services companies use helium for pipe leakage inspections. A combination of oxygen & acetylene is used for common welding, while argon is used for stainless steel arc welding. Nitrogen is used for blanketing and purging (removing oxygen) equipment, vessels and pipelines.
METAL & STEEL PRODUCTION
Steel manufacturers and foundries use argon to remove dissolved gases from steel. Oxygen is used for lancing, post combustion and burner operation. Carbon dioxide is used for hardening molds and cores in foundries.
MANUFACTURING
Chemical plants and plastic manufacturers use nitrogen for blanketing. Carbon dioxide and nitrogen are used as foaming agents. Glass manufacturers use oxygen to enhance combustion during the melting process and nitrogen is used in the float-glass process.
FOOD & BEVERAGES
Beverage manufacturers use carbon dioxide in the preparation of carbonated beverages. Dairy products use liquid nitrogen to freeze foods rapidly, thus reducing moisture loss and maintaining appearance, texture and taste.
HEALTHCARE/MEDICAL
Hospitals, medical centers and dentists use oxygen for respiration. Nitrous oxide is used as an anesthetic agent. Liquid helium is used to cool down electromagnetic coils in MRI machines. Dry ice is used for chilling purposes.
PULP & PAPER
Oxygen is used as a bleaching agent while treating the pulp to produce a “whiter” grade paper at a more economical cost.
WATER & WASTE
Carbon dioxide is used in treating industrial and municipal effluents. When dissolved in water, it forms carbonic Acid which reacts with the alkaline constituents in the solution.
